As a choir director, I lament the fact that few of my students practice at home. Creating wiki pages, and bloggers with my students will be one way I can reach them when they are at home! My first project will be to create my own wiki page in which the kids will change and update with their own contributions to a glossary of music terms and concepts we study in the first quarter next fall. I plan to create our quarter quiz over that page! That way the students generate their own quiz!

Adolescent Music Inspiration

Welcome to ThompsonChoirs blog site.

My name is Julie Kleinmaier. I am the director of the Thompson Choir program in Chicagoland . I teach adolescent singers to perform in ways that are enjoyable to themselves and their audiences.

In efforts to continue my education as a musician and teacher, I am currently taking a class at Vandercook College of Music to learn to communicate effectively with my students with technology. Creating a blog page is our first challenge.

Motivating a junior high school student to step out of their comfort zone in performance can be quite a challenge. I want to reach my students in ways that inspire them to be creative, explore new musical avenues, and above all sing.

I will have four choirs next year with nearly 250 students. The majority of my singers are female. My first step in reaching more male singers is to utilize cool forms of technology.

Do you have any suggestions for other ways to recruit and inspire more male singers?
